PPF for Tesla: Why Norway's Best-Selling Car Needs Paint Protection

Tesla Model Y is Norway's best-selling car, but the factory paint is thinner than most other brands. PPF from NOK 15,900 provides 7-10 years of protection against stone chips and scratches.

Tesla Model Y is by far Norway's best-selling car. Yet Tesla owners share a problem that many discover too late: the factory paint is thinner and softer than on most other car brands. This makes Tesla paint particularly vulnerable to stone chips, scratches and environmental damage.

PPF (paint protection film) solves this problem. Here is everything Tesla owners need to know.

Why Tesla Paint Needs Extra Protection

Tesla uses a water-based paint that is more environmentally friendly than traditional car paint, but also noticeably thinner. Typical paint measurements on a Tesla show 90-120 microns, compared with 120-160 microns on cars from BMW, Mercedes and Porsche.

In practice this means:

  • Stone chips show sooner because there is less paint to penetrate
  • Scratches are more visible, especially on dark colours like black and midnight blue
  • Paint correction is harder because the thin paint layer leaves less margin for polishing

Tesla owners on Norwegian forums report that stone chip damage appears after just a few thousand kilometres, particularly on the bonnet and front fenders.

Which Package Suits Your Tesla?

Front Kit: For Most Tesla Owners

Front Kit covers bonnet, front bumper and front fenders. These are the areas that take the most punishment from stone chips and road debris. For Tesla owners who drive normally in the city and on motorways, Front Kit offers the best balance between protection and price.

Track Pack: For Commuters and Long-Distance Drivers

Do you drive daily on the motorway? The rocker panels and rear wheel arches are also exposed to stone chips from studded tyres. Track Pack gives noticeably broader coverage for NOK 6,000 extra.

Full Wrap: For Maximum Protection

Do you own a Tesla with a special colour (such as Midnight Cherry Red or Ultra White), or do you simply want the entire car protected? Full wrap covers all painted surfaces for total peace of mind.

Tesla Model Y Juniper: What Does It Mean for PPF?

The updated Model Y ("Juniper") has new front-end panels and a revised design. We have updated cutting patterns for all Juniper variants, ensuring the film fits precisely without the need for freehand cutting.

When Should You Apply PPF to a Tesla?

As early as possible. The best time is before the car starts driving on Norwegian roads. Many owners order PPF while waiting for their delivery date, so the car can be driven straight to us after collection.

If the car already has a few thousand kilometres on the clock, we can still achieve a good result. We thoroughly prepare the paint (wash, decontamination, polish correction if needed) before the film is applied.

PPF and Tesla Warranty

PPF does not affect Tesla's factory warranty. The film sits on top of the paint and can be removed professionally without leaving a trace. When selling or returning a lease vehicle, you can choose to keep the film (as a selling point) or remove it to reveal perfect original paint underneath.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Tesla Model Y "standard" or "SUV" in the price calculator?

Tesla Model 3, Model Y and Model S fall in the "Standard/Sedan" category. Tesla Model X falls in "SUV".

How long does PPF installation take on a Tesla?

Front Kit: 1-2 days. Track Pack: 2-3 days. Full wrap: 4-5 days.

Can I combine PPF with a colour change wrap?

Yes. Many Tesla owners apply PPF to the front end and vehicle wrapping for a colour change on the rest of the car. We offer both.

Do I need PPF if I already have ceramic coating?

Ceramic coating protects against UV and makes the car easier to wash, but provides no physical protection against stone chips. For Tesla's thin paint, PPF is the only solution that prevents stone chip damage. Read our comparison of PPF and ceramic coating.
